Five Ways to Connect With Your Audience During #InstagramDown

Five Ways to Connect With Your Audience During #InstagramDown

It’s quite frustrating when you’re in the middle of engaging with your audience or posting a series of stories and you receive the fatal “Failed to Post” notification. At first, you may think it’s your Wi-Fi connection or your phone signal, but then you hop over to Twitter, check the #InstagramDown hashtag, and realize that everyone else is having the same problem. (*Sigh*)

If you’re solely relying on Instagram to connect with your audience, you’re in trouble. It’s kind of similar to having the same password for every single account. If you get hacked, consider yourself shit out of luck. So whenever you find yourself in the middle of yet another Instagram meltdown, here are a few things you can do to stay connected with your audience.

Send an email to your subscribers

  • Let your audience know that you’re still online and inform them of how to stay in touch during this troubled time

  • Share a featured product along with some product reviews

  • Remind them about upcoming events they should RSVP for

  • Highlight a recent blog post and ask them to comment with their opinions

Dust off your Twitter account

  • Create a Twitter thread of what you’re working on today (use #InstagramDown in each post)

  • Create a video sharing what you’re looking forward to in the coming weeks

  • Poll your audience on what they’re doing during #InstagramDown

Update your LinkedIn profile

  • Make sure your professional profile is updated

  • Create a company page for your business and share company milestones

  • Connect with people you may be interested in collaborating with or even hiring in the near future

Create new pins on Pinterest

  • Organize new boards

  • Add new pins with links to your website

  • Set up a Pinterest ad campaign

Re-organize your website

  • Complete a website audit (update photos, check copy for typos, review your analytics)

  • Respond to any blog post comments and product reviews

Don’t waste an entire day of engaging with your audience just because Instagram (and possibly Facebook and WhatsApp) are down for some unknown reason. Use your other platforms to get the job done and stay on top of your marketing strategy.
