Gustavo Couture Fashion Show

What a busy few weeks it has been! Work is keeping me going non-stop, but I’m glad I at least had the weekend to spend with my family in New Orleans (even though those long flights can certainly take the life right out of me). After arriving back home on Tuesday night, I had to quickly jump back into my work routine and prepare to attend some fun fashion events, including the Gustavo Couture Fashion Show at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel last night.

I was still suffering from a terrible bout of jet lag so my decision-making skills weren’t on point when I decided not to wear the black and white Calvin Klein dress that I packed from my closet the night before and chose to wear my denim tights, a basic gray tank, and my Christian Siriano heels (even though the dress code was “formal soiree”). I felt under-dressed walking into the venue, but I didn’t let that stop me from enjoying the beautiful pieces coming down the runway from my front-row seat.

The show opened with two fabulous collections from Charity Titalii and Vissette Boutique. Charity’s collection featured florals inspired by her Pacific Island heritage and Vissette Boutique’s show featured beautiful, flowy dresses from local designers that had me reaching for my debit card. After a brief intermission where I sipped a much-needed glass of Cabernet and mingled with some of the other guests, it was time for Gustavo’s collection, which included headpieces from Azula By Design.

The fashion show was also a fundraiser to assist the Congolese Refugee women living in the Seattle / Washington State Area who are survivors of trauma, torture, and sexual violence. Funding contributes to covering rental expenses while completing ELS, driving lessons, & becoming independent.

The “Congolese Integration Network” is supported by the Seattle Foundation. More info available at https://www.facebook.com/TheSeattleFoundation/.Overall, the show was fantastic and I’d highly recommend supporting Gustavo for his technical brilliance and eye for design.
