From No Sleep to a Brooklyn Mic Moment
Saturday evening in NYC looked a little different for me.
Since Thursday night, I’d had zero hours of sleep, one full day of job hunting from a Midtown Starbucks, twelve hours of recovery sleep in my new hotel room, and exactly no full meals.
But I couldn’t slow down just yet. I had PRocon’s Pull Up & Pour In event in Brooklyn on my calendar.
It turned into a day of firsts:
First subway ride
First time in Brooklyn
First encounter with the biggest rat I’ve ever seen
After a scenic walk from the station, I arrived at Coffee Uplifts People in Bed-Stuy. The energy was warm and unpretentious. People sipped cocktails, enjoyed catered food, and shared stories. I met incredible PR professionals who were both down-to-earth and ambitious.
The panel discussion with Keisha Brewer, Stephanie Faublas, and Nazirah Ahmad was packed with insights like:
✨ “Use what you have.”
✨ “To lead, know who you want to lead and serve them.”
Somewhere between connecting with new faces and enjoying my drink, I found the courage to grab the mic, introduce myself, and share details about Sequin Soirée. Surprisingly, I wasn’t nervous; it felt natural, like I was exactly where I needed to be.
I wrapped the night with a Raising Cane’s chicken sandwich combo and finally felt grounded again.
Next up? More job applications and an interview. Did I nail it? Find out in the next episode of Watch Me Work.
