A Much-Needed Spring Break

Earlier this year, I was excited to start planning this year's travel activities, starting with my aunt's wedding in New Orleans in April. I wasn't too excited to go back home, but I organized my finances to save up to celebrate with my Pink Ladies. Unfortunately, due to my aunt's anxiety with planning anything, things got postponed.

Frustrated then that my travels wouldn't begin until July, I felt antsy about not being able to leave Seattle until the summer. That just wasn't going to work for me. I'd been working on some new marketing strategies at work and just completed the quarterly market report. My brain needed some time away from my regular routine.

Thankfully, while completing research for an article, I was reminded of Vancouver Fashion Week. There's a semi-annual fashion show three hours north of me, but since I only had a month to plan the trip, instead of my normal 3-6 months, I decided to only attend the Friday and Saturday night shows and make a nice weekend getaway out of it.

As far as transportation goes, I wanted to finally take the Amtrak train, but since the train schedule wasn't meeting my needs, I decided to take a #fashionroadtrip. Sadly, since I planned this trip on a whim, I made a rookie mistake. I didn't plan to travel the day before the events so on the drive up, I was fighting my exhaustion and anxiety of settling into the hotel and rushing to the fashion show.

By the time I checked in and saw that hotel bed, I decided my attendance at the Friday show wasn't necessary. And I'm glad I listened to my body because I slept for a good eight hours, even though my Fitbit says I only slept for two hours and twenty-one minutes.

I spent the entirety of Saturday morning in bed working on the next edition of Weekly Staples. I have to be honest, deciding on a whim to create not one, but two newsletters is quite bold. But I'm excited to funnel all of my fashion knowledge to a platform where people will actually read it.

I didn't wander around the city too much since it was raining, because apparently it rains wherever I travel, except the desert. I did walk a few blocks to grab an early dinner at JOEY Bentall One before the event and caught a Lyft to and from the show.

I took advantage of my 11 am checkout on Sunday morning by sleeping in and ordering breakfast from the hotel restaurant before heading back to reality.
