UNZIPPED: Fashion Meets Film Party at Pacific Place
I'm a huge fan of going to the movie theatre. I have a whole thing where I dress comfortably, but still presentable since I'm out in public, with my Saints throw and a box of hot mozzarella sticks ready to see the latest Marvel, DCEU, or another new movie that I've been dying to see for months. It's one of my little joys.
I wasn't planning on attending this event at first because my full-time job had me chained to my desk with about three pitches due around the same time and I'd already seen the film on Netflix a few years ago, but I decided to go after Sydney Mintle of Gossip & Glamour invited me. I figured I could use it to unwind after a long day and I'm so glad I went.
The event began with some drinks, the cutest (and most delicious) cupcakes, mingling, and style sketches by Drawing Blueberry. Next, we headed into the theater for a brief welcome from Pacific Place and a short video about the early signs of ovarian cancer from The Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer.
We even got a trip down memory lane with Darcy Camden of Styled Seattle featuring local style influencers in looks inspired by 90s style icons like Winona Ryder, Cher Horowitz from Clueless, and Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis. Raffle prizes for the event included jewelry from J.Crew, a $100 gift card for Din Tai Fung four AMC movie tickets, a Kate Spade handbag, and one night in an executive suite at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel.
The film was great. I don't remember much from the first time I saw it, but it was great to be reminded of a time in fashion when social media didn't exist and you had to wake up early to get a copy of the newspaper to stay current. There were many funny moments given to us by Isaac Mizrahi himself and other moments seemed all too real like when he found out another designer stole the idea for his Fall/Winter '94 collection (I think it was John Galliano, but don't quote me on that...). It was also nice to see the top models from the 90s like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, and Linda Evangelista. I immediately started wishing for a time machine, even though I was only seven when this film came out.
If you haven't seen this film, I highly suggest inviting your gal pals over for a night of 90s fashion at its finest.
