A Canadian Thanksgiving
I've lived in Seattle since April 2013 and I'm ashamed to say there are still some significant PNW activities I haven't checked off my bucket list. For example, I only made it to the top of the Space Needle on my birthday in 2021. The number of times I've driven by that structure and had absolutely no desire to get up there was astronomical. But I figured since I needed something to do outside, I might as well go.
Needless to say, it wasn't worth it. Pretty blah, if you ask me.
So, even though I've lived about three hours away from a totally different country for nine years, crossing that border just seemed scary. But now that I'm encouraging myself to try new things, I planned a solo weekend getaway to Vancouver, B.C. I decided to go during Thanksgiving weekend so I wouldn't spend yet another holiday inside my tiny apartment alone.
The initial plan was to take the Amtrak train up north, but apparently, I didn't read the website well enough when I booked my ticket and ended up booking a bus ticket instead. No worries, I still made it there safely, but I didn't realize once we crossed the border into Canada, I'd lose cell service... because it's an international trip. Thankfully, I was able to find my way downtown using the light rail system and hiking up Burrard Street to my hotel.
The plan for the weekend was to sleep in, take some dance classes at Harbour Dance Centre, and enjoy some delicious food. I even caught "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery", which wasn't as good as the original, but still an enjoyable watch.
Overall, it was a relaxing weekend with limited cell service. Next time, I'll make sure to add international calls to my phone plan before I travel abroad.
